Q: How long after having a severe negative reaction to pain medication will it be safe to start taking them again? Have MHE...causes lots of pain in joints, muscles, tendons. Need some relief from pain

Took several months for the drug reaction to ease. My doctors are now hesitant to prescribe anything stronger than mild anti- inflammatory medications. My pain level is very, very high. High enough to interfere with my daily life and to cause depression. I am on anti-depressions but really need relief from the pain. Thanks

Severe drug reactions can be scary for everyone. And that makes people a little gun shy. One medication which is new on the market and works a little differently than other opioids is called Nucynta (tapentadol). This medication seems to be well tolerated in even the most sensitive person. Talk to your doctor because the newer medications tend to have the least amount of side effects and adverse reactions.
