The level of your pain will vary depending on your underlying health, level of activity prior to the operation, and the pain medication you are taking. Most patients are 80% recovered around 6 weeks after surgery, but recovery continues as long as three to six months. After the first few days, though, your pain should steadily improve and you should at LEAST be able to get in and out of bed and walk to the bathroom. If it is not getting any better or it is getting worse you should contact your surgeon. Also seek medical attention if your knee is increasingly stiff, red, or warm to touch, or your incision is draining pus.
