Hi, Maxine. I think you need to ask your doctor about this.  I took 2400 mg of Ibuprofen for over a year and it tore my stomach up.  Now I take Zantac 150 mg a day, sometimes twice a day. I can take Celebrex for a few days, but it fights by bp meds and my bp starts to rise. So.......there isn't an nsaid I can take for long, either. I do take an occastional Ibuprofen. I used to take Aleve and it helped a lot, but all the NSAIDs that I know of cause stomach irritation. I cannot take protron pump inhibitors, like Pevacid or Priolosec, but those people who can take those drugs find immense relief. I have several friends and family members who take these type of drugs.  You might want to have an endoscopy to check out your stomach before you continue to take nsaids.  You don't want to end up w/a bleeding ulcer.  Hope this helps some.  V

First, I am not a doctor so you should consult your physician, but I have spent over 10 years researching medicine on this and other of my mistreated ailments.  After having GERD managed by my doctor with NSAID's and antacids, my pain just grew, along with other physical problems.  It got so bad that I spent months in so much pain I cried through my nights.  Curing my own ulcer was something I did after medical therapies worsened my condition.  I did this through diet and it was amazingly simple.

First know that doctors don't always clarify their intentions when they give you antacids and NSAID's and so you should ask.  Antacids are intended to reduce acid on a short-term basis to ease pain while healing, but your stomach really needs the acid to prevent more of the bacteria growth (H-pylori) which causes ulcers.  Also NSAID's thin the stomach lining so it produces even less acid, making it more bacteria-friendly.  If you read some on H-pylori you will learn that many GP's are still uninformed about the importance of managing the bacteria in overall healing, but it has been validated at the major medical universities and hospitals.   Do some reading on H-pylori as it is amazingly enlightening.

My pain was so great that stopping NSAID's didn't change it, so I tolerated some extra pain to go for a full cure and relief came very quickly.  I started by increasing my stomach acid with HCl acid supplements and added enzymes and probiotics to improve my digestive processes so my body could get nutrients to build antibodies and to rebuild my stomach lining.  I took natural antibiotics to help kill the H-Pylori and found research showing mastic does a better job on H-pylori than many prescribed antibiotics.  Then I ate an alkaline diet which is an anti-inflammatory diet, which reduces pain and improves the bodies cellular functions.  A good example is from the book "the Perricone Prescription" - Perricone's 3-day diet was amazing.  Finally, I added some of the best foods for healing the stomach (even though my ulcer was in the esophagus) - primarily broccoli sprouts, aloe vera and cabbage.  In a few days I was sleeping, a week I was pain free but with some discomfort, but within a couple of months my body felt like a newborn baby!  I now love curling and cooing in the comfort of my bed.

Since many things can contribute to your individual situation, your doctor should not be disregarded, but hopefully this information will give you some alternatives.  Supporting information is all over the internet to confirm my experience.

Natural antibiotics:  *Mastic, Olive leaf, Probiotics
Promote healing of stomach lining:  *Broccoli Sprouts, *Cabbage,*Aloe Vera (concentrated), Licorice Root, cauliflower, kale
Promotes healthy acid production: Hcl Acid supplement
Aids digestion:  Bromelian (digestive enzymes), Pineapple Juice (source of Bromelian)
Acid Reducer: Bismuth (Pepto Bismol)
note that oversupplementing with Calcium and Magnesium can have a negative impact.

A sight that mirrors some of what I have learned with more on H-pylori is at www.acu-cell.com/dis-hpy.html and the most up-to-date medical information I have ever found is at www.worldhealth.net
