Hi minerva,

Thank you for your question! The first-line recommended treatment for osteoarthritis is Tylenol (acetaminophen). You can 1-2 tablets (325-650 mg) every 4-6 hours as needed for pain, but be sure not to take more than 4000 mg per day, as more than that can lead to liver problems. Keep in mind that you should not start any new therapy without first consulting your doctor. He or she should be able to tell you what the best treatment option for you is. Your doctor should also know what other medical conditions and what other medications you are taking, and should take those into account when recommending treatment to you.

Best of luck,

Casey

The breakdown of cartilage in the knee can lead to bony protrusions called spurs and considerable joint pain.
