Q: Left ear swollen and red, spreading to cheek and brow area.

I woke up and my left ear hurt. I looked in the mirror and it was so swollen it was sticking out from my head! The redness and swelling moved to my cheek, left side of forehead and around my left eye to where it affected my vision from the swelling. No pain except from the swelling (very severe swelling). Aspirin and ice "seemed" to maybe to have helped, but not much. This lasted about 6 days and is now starting to subside.

I get the same thing twice a year.  I am told that it is from my allergys and contact dermititis.  I go to my Dr. and get anti biotics and it helps.  I get it every year.

You may have had a bout with Chondritis, an inflammation of cartilage. In the ear it is called Auricular chondritis. I have it and it comes and goes and is very painful. Steroids is the treatment or waiting it out.
