Pain is produced by the brain; thus when the "reward center" in the brain is strongly stimulated by a chemical like amphetimine or by doing something really fun, the pain intensity is perceived to reduce to a certain degree. The "reward center" in the brain releases the most powerful pain relievers known like endrophins and dopamine. These "happy" chemicals give runner's highs, addicts high's and merry-makers a real sense of pleasure, the opposite of pain. But seeking pleasure is a very slippery slope and using amphetimine is not advisable. Eventually, the pleasure you seek will become more and more elusive as it leads you into a dark place.
