Aspirin is used both for stroke and heart attack prevention and treatment as well as a pain reliever and anti-inflammatory.  The maximum safe daily dose of aspirin is 3.9-4 grams, which means taking 2 extra strength aspirins (500 mg each) every 6 hours.  There are extra precautions for people with a history of kidney, liver, or bleeding disorders as well as those with a history of ulcers, so check with your doctor before giving high doses.
