Q: Pain Medication and knee pain

My husband has suffered with knee pain since he was young..he has Osteochondritis dissecans..He has always treated it with Ibuprofen etc. but since we've moved to Florida, it had gotten worse. He went to a doctor who referred him to a pain medicine consultant. (without my knowlege). I just found out that he was prescribed Oxycodone, Valium, Methadone, something else for stomach upset, and Roxicodone. I am so upset, are all these drugs needed for knee pain? He isn't even the same person any more. Can a doctor be disciplined for over-prescribing..and does this sound as if he did that? Thank you!

Phew!! i used to take oxycodone it really knocks you out. with all those drugs I am surprised he can stand up. dont you research this stuff on the PC. Valium is a muscle relaxor and tranqilizer combo I believe and very addictive, Just because the Dc gave them to him doesn.t mean he has to take them all. I had a hip replacement and have lots of Arthritis so I know what I am talking about.I have had the percocet ,oxycodone. hydrocodone and others, they are awful.Now 100mg of Tramadol evrey 6 hrs helps me more than all the other drugs I've had. I am not a Doctor and this is not medical advice its just a suggestion. Why doesn't your husband question the Dc, too many people just follow them blindly.I take one capsule of 200 mg of Celebrex for the Arthritis in the morning, it is an anti inflamatory drug. What kind of a Dc is he going to, sounds like he needs an orthopedic specialist.  I always research the prescriptoins on Drug Store .com to see what they are and if thereare any interactions etc before I get them filled. Good Luck
