Question
Daisy

is there a topical anti-inflammatory drug

I have been on Celebrex... did wonders for my pain but it is too expensive for me.   Switched to Mobic and have had stomach pain.  Voltaren makes a topical gel which would be great.. again.. the cost is way too much.

Does anyone have a suggestion.

Hi Daisy,

Thank you for your question. Unfortunately, there are no other anti-inflammatory topical medications available for the treatment of osteoarthritis.

Capsaicin cream provides relief to some individuals - perhaps you could try that if you haven't in the past. You can discuss with your doctor whether it may be beneficial to you. It's pretty affordable. The largest drawback is that it needs to be applied several times daily, and it takes a few weeks to reach its maximum effect. You can read more about capsaicin here.

Best of luck,

Casey
