Osteoarthritis is often visible in x-rays. Cartilage loss is suggested by certain characteristics of the images:

  • The normal space between the bones in a joint is narrowed.
  • There is an abnormal increase in bone density.
  • Bony projections, cysts, or erosions are visible.
