Spanish researchers say the changing moods many mothers experience after giving birth have no influence on the course or prognosis of bipolar disorder in women. In fact, the study showed that the only major link between the two conditions was that women who have postpartum episodes tended to have a longer duration of bipolar illness--20.16 years compared to 15.02 years in women without these postpartum mood changes.
