Women in a Canadian study who took non-steroidal anti-inflammatory
drugs (NSAIDs) during their first trimester were more than twice as
likely to have a baby with any birth defect and three times more
likely to have a baby with a structural heart defect. NSAIDs
include over-the-counter drugs like ibuprofen and naproxyn and the
prescription medicine Celebrex.
