Prophylactic Medication Colchicine

FDA moves to block unapproved gout med

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has said it will take enforcement action against any company that tries to sell unapproved injectable colchicine, a drug sanctioned to treat gout. Colchicine is approved to treat gout only in tablet form. It is highly toxic and can easily be given in excessive doses, especially if given intravenously. The FDA has already received 50 reports of reactions to use of intravenous colchicine, including 23 deaths. Read more »
