My T-score is lower(from -1.9 to-2.4) in my hip since I started taking Actonel.I have been taking it for 3 years now. Should I continue taking it or stop and look for alternatives?
Thanks for sharing your excellent question. It is tough to discover that one's bone health is declining despite medication and other proactive efforts. One thing to consider is that women, especially those of Caucasian and Asian descent, lose a significant portion of their bone mass because of menopause -- and the Actonel might well have prevented the decline from being even worse. However, depending on your age and other risk factors, a discussion with your doctor about switching to another medication may now be in order. Best wishes as you consult with your physician and continue to confront the challenge of osteopenia.
