When the doctors dont tell you about osteoporosis

By nitared Thursday, May 15, 2008

I have been having hip and back pains for over a year now. My doctor tells me that I have a ruptured dics, arthritis and that my hip  bone was pressing down on my nerves.

Im having difficulty of even standing for a long period of time.

After going back and forth to the doctor I finally asked for a part of my medical report, a couple of weeks ago , and in the report osteoporisis was diagnosed last year. I was prescribed mobic which is for inflammation but it was never mentioned to me about osteoporosis.

Hello, thank you for your thoughtful comment. I am very sorry to hear about your health difficulties and discomfort, and the added frustration of not being sure if the diagnosis you've received is complete. The best way to know for sure if you have osteoporosis (and how severe it might be) is to receive a DXA scan. This will help you and your doctor (or if you wish, consult a specialist) decide the best course of action. Best wishes on your recovery.

Dear nitared,

As a patient, you have rights to all of your medical records.  Call the medical records section at your doctor's office and request the test results, including any blood work, x-rays, etc.

There may be a small charge after so many pages.

Good luck and hoping you have a low pain day,
