Finding alternative ways to help my osteoporosis

Drugs I am Taking

Cymbalta and Buspar

About Me

I had a hysterectomy at the age of 32, ovaries and all removed. I am not a canidate for HRT. About 5 yrs ago first bone density showed osteopenia. I exercise, take calcium w/D, practice yoga, eat a healthy diet. In Oct.08 my dr. said it was time to check the bones again, low and behold I now have osteoporosis. We discussed treatment options and decided on Boniva once a month. Within 3 hours of taking that one little pill I felt like I had been hit by a truck! Of course at first I thought maybe this was the flu, aching joints, muscles, bones even my teeth hurt. After several days of feeling like this I called my dr., said it probably was the Boniva. Week 2 comes of feeling like I'm 90 (I am a very active individual) I go to see him, Wow he tells me I look horrible. Not to mention I lost weight (I'm only 5'4" and weigh 110lbs. after that pill I was just over 100lbs.) Unfortunately he tells me since this is long acting drug it will take a while to get out of my system. It is now Dec 4th I took the pill Nov 9th...Thank God I am feeling better but I still have a lot of lower back, hip and joint pain. He ran all sorts of blood work just to make sure it was nothing else happening, that came back negative. I am thankful that at some point I'll be back to my old self. In the meantime I have to go back to dr. to discuss another medication. I am scared to death of taking another drug. I lost so much time from taking the Boniva. I really hope I can find something to take, either herbs or vitamins. If any one has had success with alternative methods please let me know.
