swallowing problems

By Elena Cohen Sunday, February 24, 2008
I have been taking Actonel (once a week) for 4 years.  I'm beginning to have acid reflux and most importantly I'm having problems swallowing. Any suggestions?

Hello Elena,

Thanks for writing. Regarding your question about acid reflux and swallowing problems, you should tell your doctor. Any changes in how you are tolerating or might be reacting to a medication is something a physician needs to look into.

Let us know what you find out.

Best regards,

Maria

Hi there, thanks for sharing your excellent question. The Actonel web site (http://www.actonel.com/) says "Stop taking ACTONEL and tell your doctor if you experience difficult or painful swallowing, chest pain, or severe or continuing heartburn, as these may be signs of serious upper digestive problems." So definitely discuss this issue with your health professional as soon as possible to determine the best course of action. Best wishes as you continue to combat your osteoporosis.
