Boniva and terrible side effects - is this normal???

By bp traveler Thursday, September 13, 2007

My mom has been diagnosed with low bone density and was prescribed Boniva  1 dose per month.

She was sick in bed for 4 DAYS!!!  She was very fluish and had terrible joint pain - and she is not a complainer.

She is afraid to take this again...now what can she do?  Is this normal?

Hello and thanks for writing.

Side effects of Boniva are common, and often a user must weigh the benefits vs. the risks of the drug. See:

Severe reaction to Boniva?

I am sorry to hear about the awful experience of your mother. She is very fortunate to have such devoted offspring such as yourself and I wish you and your family the best on dealing with this challenging issue.
