Hi PJ, great article!!  I'm going to try some of your suggestions and hope it will raise awareness, at least around me.  A good friend of ours mentioned that osteo isn't a sexy disease; do you think this is one of the problems as well?

Pam, I think one of the issues is that so many people think of osteo as an "old lady's disease" - which of course, to Americans, isn't "sexy" or attractive at all. Little do people know it can strike all ages - and really, that's the awareness I'd like to raise, that young female athletes, men who maybe drink/smoke a bit too much - lots of demographics should be aware of osteoporosis. I think lots of little reminders can't hurt - which is the way I try to do it with my friends, lots of "gentle" nagging! PJH
