Hello, I've been pretty curious about this bone disease,
and decided to browse around the subject in Google.
What I found, has been very interesting!
Apparently 3 months of magnesium FIRST!
THEN calcium is introduced, and etc, etc,
within 9 months bone density had improved by 3% on
a 74 year old woman! I have also read strong supportive
evidence for using Atkins Diet, and gradually introducing
carbs....which also produced stimulating results!!
PLUS, having a POSITIVE image in the mind, of those bones
being nourished and given all the nutiments it needs to be
strong & healthy!!! As well as WORKING.....building up some kind
of a SWEAT!!! AND PLENTY of SUN...Vitamin D,D,D!!!!!!!
The one on the Atkins food, also was on a very mild and LOW
dose of (fomax???)whatever it is.....but using other strong
supplements. this is so encouraging for all!! staying still, and
thinking all the horrible pictures of what one might end up
being like, does nothing for the mind and body to prepare itself
for wellness, and with some of the osteoporosis.....perhaps some who
find its there, may have experienced or felt at some stage....before they knew they had it, they may have felt they were without "support".
So its important to talk to our bodies and let it know we care,
and give yourself affirmations....such as...."I am supported in life, there is nothing to fear, I take responsibility for myself now" and etc. Hope this helps in some small way.
I was "switched" to Armidex during my 5th year of cancer treatment, having had tamoxifen for 2 and femara for 2, as the femara left me very achy. 10% bone loss in a from the time I started the femara to the the Arimedix change over. I am now on Boniva and calcium plus D.... but, like my oncologist said, "We know how to treat osteoporosis. If the cancer comes back, we may NOT know how to treat it." Damned if I do and damned if I don't. We just have to hang in there!
Same scenario for me... I said "I'd rather take my chances with cancer than for sure have osteoporosis," and the oncologist said "No, you wouldn't..." So I'll do Actonel. One drug after another, huh? Good luck to you - PJH
