If you’re a fan of the television show "Law and Order," or grew up with Perry Mason, the following story is right up your alley. Filled with violence, intrigue, and conflicting versions of the truth – and with billions of dollars at stake – it ranks right up there with Judge Judy fo...

Hi PJ, thanks so much for the update on this story!!  I haven't been following the trial and wondered how it would turn out.

What I don't understand is what happened between the jurors, is there any more info on that?  This is only the beginning of these trials so we'll have to see what happens.

So many of us have periodontal disease that I wonder if this alone can cause the delayed healing of the jaw like some say.  Smoking certainly doesn't help the situation, but what I'd like to know is how many people have had ONJ prior to the release of these drugs to do a comparison of the incidence of ONJ just from perio diseases alone.  I find it hard to imagine that the drug didn't play some role in the severity of the disease, but who knows.

    Thanks again...

Hi Pam - Since jury deliberations are private, I guess we won't know what happened in that room, unless one of the jurors decides to talk. I've been skeptical about the bisphosphonate/ONJ connection; all of my docs discount it. However, the study in southern California seems like too much of a coincidence for Fosamamx to NOT be a factor. And the American Dental Association seems like a reasonable enough group that they wouldn't be dispersing questionable info. There's no telling what "the truth" is here, but the connection certainly warrants more study, doesn't it? PJ
