help and info for my mom and I

By crable Sunday, March 04, 2007

My 75 year old mom is in the hospital recovering from a fractured wrist and arm. She lives with me. I am scared to leave her home alone, yet I can't afford private pay for in home services. Can the county help? I also need to talk with other people who have parents going through this disease. I am the only care provider, there are no other family members. She has been through breast cancer as well. It feels like it never ends. I just want her to get better to come back and live with me. They say a possible six weeks in rehab. But then I think, what if she breaks something else. She just started taking fosamax about 4 months ago. I have heard contrasting information about this drug. Anyone know about the injections?

Thanks

Charmaine

Hang in there, Charmaine.  It sounds like you and your mom are going through a lot. When you ask about county resources, which state and county are you asking about?

Hi Charmaine,

I'm sorry to hear about your mother, but you are a wonderful daughter and I'm sure your mother is grateful to have you in her life. It's not easy to be the sole caretaker of a loved one, but I encourage you to keep strong and push forward as you have been.

In response to your medication questions, I suggest asking our expert, Dr. Neil Gonter. I think he will be a helpful resource to you.

You also mentioned you have a desire to connect with others who are like you. You may want to visit our support groups’ page. You can use this URL to go directly to it if you’re interested.  (http://www.healthcentral.com/osteoporosis/support-groups.html)

I wish you all the best, Charmaine.
