wyldrose, you sound so much like me.  It has helped me that I have been diagnosed with rare side effects of Boniva.  That was my gastric doctor.  I had a CAT scan and a colonsocopy, and he says it's all the Boniva.  I also, of course, have the other problems too.  Severe bone pain and now dental problems.  My other doctors would like to poo-poo the diagnosis, but as it was one of their colleagues, it is problematic for them.  All you have to do is google Boniva IV and you will find more than you want to know.  One thing that has helped me.  There is a scientist who has done much research on this and has a great ebook.  And she is so kind and has written e-mail to me, and encourages me.  She has natural ways that have helped her own and others with decreased bone density.

To order The Bone Health Revolution, you can call me toll-free at 1-888-646-3855, Sunday-Friday, or order securely online at the website: http://www.SaveOurBones.com/

I hope to hear more from you, wyldrose.  BTW, when I googled Boniva IV, I found mention of leisions in the mouth.  What we want to do is to avoid "dead jaw."  I am praying 24/7 to make it through the the suffering that is 24/7.  From my 1st Boniva IV, it was about 3 months and one week, until the symptoms passed.  I don't usually do this, but I'm giving you my e-mail.  We need to support each other.  My doctors have been so uncaring and dismissive of me. I am troubled by what I see as cruelty, in refusing to help me deal with the pain.  I've thought of starting a support group on Yahoo.  jeanelleray@suddenlink.net

hi....thanks for giving me your email address.........i just found your reply today..........yes, incredible cruelty abounds surrounding symptoms which occur after beginning IV boniva.........my rheumy, after my first dose, told me my muscle/joint pain, gas, bloating etc. couldn't possibly be boniva, but that i was getting old! after the second injection, things got worse (including incredible gas, when i have never been a gassy person) and that is when the first lesion in my mouth occured..........i didn't even think to link that to the boniva until later.........i had it removed my an ENT, who sent it off, and i was just relieved it wasn't cancer......now it has grown back!!!!!!!!!!! and when i read this line "ONJ typically appears as a lesion in the mouth with areas of exposed yellow-white hard bone with smooth or ragged borders. ~~ Dr. Gonter "...

i realized that is an EXACT description of what it is...........i haven't been able to go back to the ENT, since suddenly i have developed high blood pressure, which after eight weeks and tons of tests and politics, seems to be caused by dysplasia of the arteries which feed the kidneys..........so NOOOOOOOW i have to have a renal angiogram and stents on both sides......i would bet THAT is related to the boniva.............

after the third injection (and i will NEVER have another one, although i don't know how to treat the osteoporosis now) i ended up in the ER the next day with the worst neck pain of my life........and they also found in an ultrasound, swollen lymph nodes (which seem to have disappeared).........

my PCP definitely thinks i am nuts, and my rheumy is an idiot..........i feel like the whole world is just being run my the drug companies (and the insurance people) and NO ONE knows how to even to diagnostic process anymore........they just quickly run a patient trhough a mathematical algorrythm (sp?) and then send us on our merry way with MORE drugs........

given that i had a drive-through double mastectomy, which has caused permenent, horrible nerve damage and pain, which when i wrote a research paper about, could have been prevented, i don't trust anyone anymore..........and yet, how am i to deal with all these issues? i have no life, and only my grandson keeps me wanting to even stay alive.........

sooooooooooooo, sorry if i was rambling..............i think a support group would be great.....you know, my PCP DID say that if the ENT decides this lesion IS osteonecrosis, it should be reported to the CDC, because according to her, no case has EVER been reported connected to IV boniva................

thanks for you note online, and i hope you are finding some relief from your issues..........yes, the cruelty of all this is out of control.........how do we fight it?

Boniva IV has wrecked my life.  I'm in constant pain from abdomin, terrible weakness....I can't do any of my work or prepare a meal for myself, bone pain in extremeties, and neck and back.  My doctor was thrilled to take my $1000 for each IV (medicare doesn't pay for it) but none of my doctors want to admit that my suffering is caused by their medicine.  Fear of lawsuits?  When I ask for pain med I feel they treat me as though I'm addicted to pain meds and they laugh me off.  None of them has a clue about my suffering.  Except for my gastrointologist, who diagnosed my problems as severe side effect to Boniva.  If I can convince one person not to take this deadly poison, I will not have lived in vain.  Jenny

Please everybody who has these kind of terrible problems call FDA at 1800-322-1088 or to speak to someone 888-463-6332. There is a form 3500 that one can download fom their web site at http://www.fda.gov/downloads/Safety/MedWatch/DownloadForms/UCM082725.pdf. You need to fill out and submit electronically or by mail to file an official complaint. I spoke to a staff member at FDA and she stated that there needs to be a volume of complaints from several people for them to recall but she said that most likely they will if they continue to receive complaints similar to ours. Please list all your symptoms as they need to know.

How can I explain the fact that ONJ has left me with zero quality of life? The pain and suffeing are incomprehensible.  The drugs were touted as big-time help for Osteo and even to give a boost to cancer drugs as helping with death to cancer cells (opoptosis). Most oncologists were not aware that these drugs would lead to many of their patients becoming vulnerable to one of the most vicious diseases of present times with no treatment at all. Of course not, the manufacturers knew their goals and control the testing procedures. Notice that the sites for ONJ and the maker of the drugs, Novartis for example, always preach prevention.

I have had ONJ for over 4 years and I am so ill and with pain and suffering that I hope and pray that anyone considering these drugs read the literature on the internet. My jaw broke months ago and then the only option I had was to put in a titanium plate. The operation is hardly ever successful and that is true to the hilt in my case. I have had infection after infecion and wounds that when they scab over, cause a build-up of the action of the deviish drugs with a half-life that doesn't provide the victim with any relief ...for life.

As I write, I am under heavy sedation as I have two wounds from the operation that are constantly infected and extremely painful, extremely painful, extremely painful. More seriously, the ONJ becomes active when one is operated on, just like when a tooth is pulled. Like a lightning bolt, it attacks any vessels and tissue that lead to bone in the jaw. In fact, new chunks of dead bone are now invading the spaces in my mandible and gums touched from the operation, especially around the screws. And about sedation at the beginning of this paragraph: most pain killers are useless. Those that help make you nauseated and incoherent and still in pain, horrific pain.

About the pain, regardless of what one takes, is relentless, it is 24/7. It is driving me near mad; just as I was when I recovered from the operation; the damned ONJ stuff is so strong and dead that it isn't penetrated enough by the anasthesia. When I came too, I was in hellacious agony and pain. I was given morphine and more morphine and held down by hospital personal. It didn't work! That's right, the morphine did not work even though I was over-dosed on the product. It reminded me of the people who used to be tortured by the Inquisitors. I later learned that the anathesia and the Morphine interacted and actually made the pain worse. How about a 9 1/2 on a scale of 10.

I can't eat, I hardly get any sleep, and I can't function. there is no quality of life. I see the oral surgeon weekly and get the outside wounds drained and inside the mouth, rinsed and small bone fragments picked out....very painful in case you want to know. And I owe bookoo's of money. Isn't that just great????

By the way, don't ask me about ONJ. Just click on images after putting it up on your screen. And for those who have breast cancer and Zometa now being pushed as an aid for that terrible disease, get the facts. When you are told that ONJ is rare, study, study, study.

ONJ now affects tens of thousands of us here in the USA. Since most of them came out in 1995-98 it is a sure bet that with the Baby-Boomers getting cancer or just Osteoporosis and believing in their tv or news outlets that only a few people will suffer ONJ, get some hard-facts and projections. It takes ususlly 5-8 years for little old women with small bones to get ONJ just from Fosomax. And Aredia by IV is 10,000 times more powerful than Fosomax; and Zometa may be 1000- 5000 times more powerful than Aredia. That should be a warning even for those taking the newer class of bisphosphonats drugs.

When I got ONJ I stopped taking Fosomax, Aredia and Zometa. But it was too late. The radioactive substances were in full force in my body. However, this is just for your information rather you feel it is important for you or not: My bones have done better on milk, cheese, Calcium, Iron, Vitamin C, exercise and and meals with bone building veggies. The bone tests prove that their was hardly a benefit at all from the bisphosphonates as compared to going natural. Methinks me a fool for not investigating my options sooner. Yes, I am the fool and I am paying dearly for my mistake.

What about you? If this brief account helps one or a few people, they will be rewarded in the best possible way: better health for their old age and  not a sick, angry, hurt, person in riveting abject pain, remorseful but trying in any way possible to get some relief, any relief, any quality of life.....but it isn't likely to happen, not at all. There are no physicians being trained to know ONJ disease well enough to actually stall or cure it; just as there still is not a cure for cancer despite all the computer and other technologies that medical personnel diagnose with but don't cure with; there is no answer for ONJ Disease. The only solution for those of you fortunate enough to know what will happen with long-term use of these less than holy drugs, is to not take them unless you are a gambler or just have no other choice....which I now find hard to believe. It is $$$$$$$$ over health.

Good Gosh, Check it out before you buy into it.

My heart goes out to you, Mark.  I just received a message in a inbox that there was a message.  I had my 2nd and last Boniva IV 11 months ago.  I found a wonderful nutritionist in Santa Monica, Calif.  I live in Texas, and I have worked with her with telephone conferences.  I am taking natural supplements that have started to heal my digestive system enough that I am not living on a diet of cornbread.  Fruits, veggies or any kind of protein would send me to the ER.  I can now eat good foods, and my pain is better.  Most of the time.  If you are interested you can go to Rose Cole's website, www.wellnesswithrose.com.  It always amazes me that she has answers for questions that I think cannot be answered.

My dental problems are huge.  I have had several root canals, rather than extraction, because of the dangers of extraction.  I have avoided going back to my dentist for many months, because I am so weary.   It's getting difficult to chew, so I will have to face my demons.  He had never heard of problems with the osteoporosis drugs until I went to him.   He has done extensive research.  And is horrified.

I understand the 24/7 pain.  It hurts me to hear that you are suffering so.  I rarely leave home, because this has sapped my strength and my will.  I now have a very poor immune system, and I tend to catch whatever current virus is making the rounds.  I have been ill for 2 weeks after catching the 24-hour virus that my husband had.

      Blessings,  Jeanelle

My mother in law has terrible problems after taking BONIVA for a while and her femur broke without any outside force and most likey because of this terrible drug. She was also exeriencing incredible bone pain and she could not an  still can only stand the pain  by using extremely  strong pain medication. This has noting to do with "side effects' of a drug because it can destroy the life of people who took it.
