Genetic Testing...

By Pam M Friday, July 13, 2007
This is a great thing to get done. I had it done and i now know for the sake of my children that i do not carry this gene.It is a simple blood test that you will never regret. It took such a load off us all and the worry is down to a minumal. Knowing if you carry this Gene would help you better plan out your life a little better as to health issues. I would recommend this to anyone with a history in thier family. Take Care All xoxox

Thank you for your SharePost. Yes, genetic testing can help to better understand what might or might not be in store for you and your family in regards to your future health. In addition, it's important to know about all risk factors for osteoporosis, not just those linked to genetics. For example - gender, ethnicity and diet can play big parts. For a good overview of the risk factors for osteoporosis, visit our "Risk Factors" page: http://www.healthcentral.com/osteoporosis/treatment-000018_5-145.html.  - M

Pam, thank you so much for sharing your experience. Research is moving so fast, hopefully soon we'll have the ability to be informed about our genetics in regard to even more possible illnesses.

Yes that would be awesome... That way not olny do we know what we have ahead of us but our children may deside what they are doing as well. If my test would have come back that i do carry the cancer gene, my daughter was not going to have children in fear of them seeing what she did with me and the pain i go threw all the time. So needless to say when it came back negitive, we cried for about a hour in joy. These tests mean more to some like me then others but at least there is answers to some of our questions. Thanks so much for responding to me. Take Care xoxo

Hi Pam, I realize you posted this thread a while back, but was wondering if you were talking about genetic testing for cancer or osteoporosis.  I can certainly be wrong, but I didn't know there was a genetic test for osteoporosis.  If you were talking about this and not "just" the cancer test, can you tell us the name of the osteo test?

Thanks for any help you can provide.Smile
