I am 61 years old and have worked as a psychiatric RN for my entire 32 year career. I am  now considering retirement, and this is one of the reasons that I have been led into this consideration. The physical nature of my work and its inherent dangers have always been exciting to me rat...

That is an incredible journey, Susie. Thanks so much for sharing such an intimate experience. From those I've talked to making the commitment to take a daily injection for one's health really makes one think about one's priorities in life. Best wishes on you bone healh.

Thank you Lila. I have been doing a lot of evaluating lately and listening to my body for a change!!! About time. Driving myself physically was something I did for so long that I thought I would never be able to change -- not so!  Take care of yourself. Thanks for writing. Susie

Hello, Susie. Thank you for your SharePost.

We're honored that your first online sharing about your condition was with us. You'll find great information and support here.

Because your therapy is so intense (daily injections), I thought you'd find an article by our expert physician, Dr. Neil Gonter, on the basics of Forteo helpful:

Forteo: Do the Benefits Outweigh the Risks?

    http://www.healthcentral.com/osteoporosis/c/73/2677/forteo-risks/

Let me know if I can help you find more information. I'd be glad to.

Feel free to share more with us. We look forward to hearing from you again soon.

    Best to you,

    Maria

I have never responded to a connection before, but after reading Susie's journal I feel I need to reply. I am a 59yo radiation therapist. I have treated cancer pts for 28yrs and now I need to get serious about my own body. I was introduced to Forteo today because I was diagnosed with severe osteo. I'm very conflicted about starting such an extreme treatment. I've been in prayer since my dr app. asking  the Lord for direction. If anyone has any advice for me it would be accepted gladly. I know no one that takes this medication....So I really need some sister support. Thanks,     Val

    Hi

I am a 44 year old documentary filmmaker and I have been on Forteo for a month and a half. I have a t score of -4.1, this is severe osteo. I also have two vertebral fractures at t5 and t6 and as yet no pain associated there. I have found the treatment quite easy to administer. All I have noticed is that I have the odd shooting pain usually in the tibia and once in the jaw, which lasts for less than a second and it is very intermittent, I am also very restless at night, can't seem to get comfortable, can't keep my legs still and get very hot, but only at night. Moods fine. I am working 70 hour weeks and go to the gym 3 times a week, jogging 15 km per week. No weight gain. Travelling with the pens is a pain so I know pack it in my checked in luggage for short flights and they seem fine for 6 hour journeys. It's the long haul flights which need constant checking with. I am due to get the results of my bone biopsy in a week or so, then I will have more information. To all of you, good luck and feel free to ask me any questions. I think Forteo is a risky proposal but for me, the anticipated benefits should outweigh the gains of a longer healthy life. 16 months to go.
