Forteo and cancer

I am now 63.  After two separate bone breaks and severe pain for several years, I took Forteo about 3 years ago for one year.  It worked great for me; taking away my spinal pain and as an added benefit it even corrected my squeeky knees and took the knee pain away.

But now I have a chondrosarcoma.  Actually the tumor was surgically removed so I HAD a chondrosarcoma.  I know the risk of Forteo and osteosarcoma, but what about chondrosarcoma which I understand is a bone cancer that forms in the cartilage?

Hello, thank you for your comments. I am very glad to hear about your progress with osteo and concerned about your experience with cancer. I had never heard of such a cancer in connection with Forteo, but I can see how it can cause one concern. I wish you the best as you continue to safeguard your health.

Hi Joan,

I'm glad you're ok.  I'm curious as to if you went back on Forteo after the chondrosarcoma was removed.  Also, how did you know you had a chondrosarcoma?  I'm 57 with -2.5 at my hips.  I'd love to try Forteo however 5 years ago I had a chondrosarcoma removed.  Did your Doc give you any feedback.  Was there definately a connection between the forteo and the tumor?  Thanks, any info is appreciated.

I am not back on Forteo although I loved being on it; I felt great!  I will go on one of the insusion drugs next year instead (once a year infusion).

I know I had a chondrosarcoma becasue the tumor was surgically removed and the pathology report stated it was a chondrosarcama.  Mine was a lung cancer tumor and the upper right lobe of the lung was removed with the tumor.

Doctors don't see a link between this type of tumor and the Forteo.

Where was your cancer?

My right fibula.  They removed the top 4 inches.  Thanks for the commmunication.  It helps.  I'm sure I could find a doctor who would prescribe it, I'm just not sure if it's worth the risk...
