Reader Question: I have been on all the medications on the market for osteoporosis, including the yearly IV medication, Reclast, and the daily injection, Forteo. Are there any new medications available, or soon to be available, that I can look forward to?
A very important drug trial result ...
You say the results are impressive. From the percentages cited, there was a 40% reduction in hip fractures in the women who took Denosumab. This implies that if 100 women had hip fracture in the placebo group, 60 women had hip fractures in the Denosumab group. That does not sound encouraging nor impressive. Obviously, the new drug is not going to be a silver bullet for every women. Are there factors (Age, BMI, other medication taken, etc. ) that favor a certain type of women for whom the drug may be effective?
