Cool, Calcium-Packed, Summer Time Drinks
Summer is winding down, but the heat wave gripping the country shows no signs of departure. So now's the time to indulge in some great cool and refreshing - calcium packed - summer drinks!
One way to beat this type of summer heat, is to keep your body constantly hydrated and adding cool summer drinks that are bone friendly.
Recently we heard that calcium in excess could cause heart problems, but through this research we heard again how calcium from our diet is good for us and doesn't cause these other health conditions. Calcium through diet is absorbed at a much slower rate, so it doesn't cause the same problems seen with supplemental calcium when taken in excess. Check with your doctor to see what he or she feels is excessive intake of supplements when you are already getting calcium from your diet.
Here are three recipes that will help you beat the heat and will be kind to your body and bones at the same time.
The National Osteoporosis Foundation reminds us that our daily requirement for "all" calcium - foods and supplements - is 1,200 milligrams a day for those over 50 and 1,000 milligrams for those under 50. If we try to get most of our daily requirement from food, we won't have these problems with excess calcium, and heart attacks.
The following recipes are sure to cool and build your bones at the same time.
