The following are the top ten osteoporosis terms to help you navigate your recent osteoporosis diagnosis.
Our bones contain minerals that make them dense; bone mass is the amount of mineral content in your bones that is measured during a DXA scan.
Balance exercise is any exercise where you challenge your body to balance. To prevent fractures it is important to have good balance so you don’t fall. By including balance exercises in your daily workout you’ll be protecting your body from falls and strengthening your muscles which in turn protect the health of your bones.
A fracture is a broken bone. Spine and hip fractures are the most common type of osteoporotic fracture.
Functional exercise improves how your body moves during activities of daily living. These exercise help to prevent falls and fractures.
Fractures of the spine can lead to the forward curving of the spine also referred to as kyphosis or a dowagers hump.

Most people reach peak bone mass between the ages of 18-25. Peak bone mass refers to the most bone you will have in your lifetime.
