Great explanation of a complex subject- And it's great news indeed for those who want/need to take a bisphosphonate but have had such awful gastro side effects. I hope they can get this technology from "bench to bedside" ASAP. - PJH

Hi PJ:  Thanks for your kind words.  Let's keep our fingers crossed that this will pan out sometime soon, since the Pharmaceutical Co claims that implementing this wouldn't require much financial outlay for the BP manufacturer's.  Hopefully the award Merrion recieved will move things along faster.  They were in Phase II trials over a year ago, but I'm not sure where it stands now.  Since it seems like such a simple delivery system to apply to existing bisphosphonates, I can't see why others (drug co's) wouldn't embrace it considering the problem they are seeing with NON COMPLIANCE with these drugs.  This system won't alleviate all the side effects, but it could certainly help with the most common GI problems, the drugs lack of absorption, and complex dosing regime.

Thanks again,

Pam

Hi Jacqueline:  Thanks for the compliment, I'm sure everyone at HealthCentral.com appreciates your interest and is glad you've learned from the many working here.

Hopefully bisphosphonates will eventually be easier to take for those with gastro intestinal issues.

Thanks again...
