May is Osteoporosis Awareness Month - Share Your Knowledge

Many feel that osteoporosis is a geriatric disease, so it's something we don't need to worry about until we reach the age of 70, or God forbid suffer a fracture, but that's not the case. Eighty-five to ninety percent of bone mass is acquired when we are in our teens, and peak bone mass is reached by...

While using the internet I stumbled onto information about a device called the Juvent platform that NASA uses on their astronauts.  It costs $3000 approx. but WITH NO HARMFUL AND PAINFUL side effects like ALL of the bone drugs list as possible.  I want to know more of this device.  Please consider a show with regard to this subject.  I take chemotherapy drugs that are known to wreck havoc with bone health.  I am terrified literally to take the bone drugs.  PLEASE give us your opinion on the Juvent.  I also noticed that May is all about bone health so its perfect timing.

Hi deb be:  Welcome to the community and thanks for the comment.  I'm glad you are aware of Osteoporosis Awarness month, that shows you are paying attention to your health.

I've never used the Juvent, but have talked to some who have so if you would like, I could write about it, but it would have to be from an anecdotal view point, if that's what you're asking, I wasn't exactly sure.

I understand your fear of the osteoporosis meds, you aren't alone there, most people are afraid unfortunately, but there are alternatives out there you just need to look into them.

How are you doing with the cancer treatment, are things getting better?

Thanks so much for posting a comment, and feel free to write a Sharepost about your experiences with osteoporosis/cancer if you like, we always like to read about our community members personal experiences since it can help you and so many others.  Writing is also therapeutic, and can help you through many tough situations.

Thanks, Pam Smile

Hi Pam

I've been alright as for the breast cancer,  thank you for asking.  Its the effects of the chemo that is so worrying.  I am losing bone mass as I age and the effects of stopping estrogen has made it worse.  I can't help fearing the bone meds,  I feel good.  I don't want my stomach being damaged and no one wants more pain.  I want to listen to my oncologist but its impossible to ignore all of the warnings I've seen online from patients who have taken the drugs.

Thats why that Juvent Platform is so important to me.  If its good enough for NASA astronauts its good enough for me.  However I don't know quite how to find out true results.  I guess I need to go to NASA directly?  I hate to be synical but theres an awful lot of money made on those meds.  We need further study of the Juvent, or atleast thats my heart felt opinion.

Thank you for your lovely site.  I don't feel so alone.
