Dear Pam,

Many thanks for the wonderful interview on Fosteum. Though no one in India has ever heard of it and no one shall know of it for years to come yet it is a terrific find to bring ro the fore of the American Public! Once it gets accepted there it is certain to percolate to the rest of the world as well as India. You have done a favour for all the people of the world by bringing this latest information before us all. Hope you are well. It is incredible how much hard work you do though being ill yourself these days. I hope the procedure went well! If Fosteum ever comes to India I will be the first to take it!

Yours,

Priya

Hi Priya, thanks for joining us and we're glad you are interested in this medicinal food.  This product is available in the US and other countries.  It was approved, officially, several years ago.  You may want to do some research and see if it's available where you live since it isn't a bisphosphonate.  The ingredients, as MaryAnn mentioned, are zinc, D3 and genistein (isolated from soy).  It does require a Drs prescription, but it's also less expensive than the other osteoporosis medications.  Primus is the manufacturer, so see if you can't find it where you live or contact the company to see if they would ship and sell it over there.  I'll try to find out if it is available where you live and let you know.  Be wary of the products that claim to have the same ingredients as Dr. Armbruster mentioned.

Good luck...

Went to the pharmacy to renew my prescription for Fosteum. The pharmacist said it is no longer available. No explanation. I would like to know if there is a problem linked to Fosteum.

Hi annon, welcome and thanks for your question.  I hadn't heard about this, so I contacted my local pharmacy and was told that the medication looks like it's being phased out.  I would try calling some other pharmacies to see if their distributor can get this, until you can find something else to take, if this statement is true.

I don't believe there is any problem with this medicinal food, but it does look like Drs aren't prescribing it that much so that could explain why they might phase this out.  It sounds more like a financial decision rather than anything else.

You could also call Primus (Fosteum manufacturer) and see if they can't give you a definitive answer on this.  Here's their number: 480-483-1410  I got the number from their FAQ's page.

Good luck and if you don't mind, let us know what you find out.

I emailed Fosteum this morning regarding  being unable to get the Fosteum from my pharmacist. This is the reply I received.

We haven’t discontinued the product, but we did change our order number back in December and that may have caused confusion for the Pharmacist.

Can you please let me know what chain or even better, which pharmacy you went to and we can get it rectified for you?

Thank you and I look forward to hearing from you.

Kathy

I just had a dexascan and my numbers had improved from 2 years ago. I am convinced that Fosteum is responsible for the lower risk. I made no other changes to my diet or activities.

Hi Shirlee, thanks so much for the update!!  This has been causing some confusion, so I'm glad you encluded the response from Primus!!

I'm thrilled your scores have improved and that you don't have any problems with Fosteum.

Good luck to you...
