i had my ovaries removed by the advic of mt gy anf oncologist. the felt it was better then receiving the injections every month and i had a big cyst on one. i wish i would of read this before. is there anything we can do to prevent the condition.
Laura, make sure you're doing as much as you can in the lifestyle department (no smoking, minimal drinking, an exercise program with the right kind of exercises); take any needed calcium and vitamin D supplements; eat a healthy diet, and monitor your bone health with your doctor. That's your best defense against thinning bones. Good luck - PJH
PJ, thanks for covering this and explaining the ramifications. I too developed osteop from pre-mature ovarian failure and due to the WHI, no one would rx HRT. I'll never know if that was the right decision or not, since the main reason was I was fibrocystic with heart probs in my 30s.

Osteoporosis vs. breast cancer - who can make a choice like that?? Now, they recommend lowest dose HRT/shortest amount of time possible for menopausal symptoms, but I don't think that regimen would help prevent osteo... Definitely caught between the rock and the hard place when you lose your ovaries early in life. Thanks for connecting, Pam - PJH
