depression medication and osteoporosis

By Lila de Tantillo, Health Guide Tuesday, June 26, 2007
After years of exploring the association between depression and osteoporosis, a new study now establishes a connection between a commonly used treatment for depression, selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors and bone loss. While researchers say not to change medicine just because of these findings, it is greatly illuminating to know that the link wasn't exclusively just from being depressed, although depression itself has not been ruled out as a cause of bone loss. Hopefully this is the beginning of more vital data on how the mind, body and specifically the bones all work together.
