osteoporosis inspiration

Lila de Tantillo Health Guide
  • So many of us have seen the setbacks an osteoporosis-related fracture can cause in life. I watched both my grandmothers struggle as they lost their independence after injuries over the years. But this story, of golfer Jay Sigel, caught my eye. He is 63 suffers from a condition called transient osteoporosis that resulted in a hip fracture last year. He's just played on the Champion's Tour and for a while looked like he might be its oldest winner in its history, though his performance weakened at the end. While such a comeback from a fracture certainly isn't possible for all of us, I think it's inspiring to think about his success as an athlete and to aim for the best in our own lives despite the condition (and in the case of myself and other caregivers, encourage our loved ones to do so). Here's the story on Sigel: http://www.newsday.com/sports/golf/ny-spgside0701,0,162049.story?coll=ny-sports-headlines
