Though I'm still a couple decades away from taking a bone density scan (I hope!), I had a worrying experience at my routine doctor's appointment this week. When the nurse measured my height, I was a quarter-inch shorter than I'd been before! (Down from 5'4" and 3/4 to 5'4" and 1/2).
It shouldn't necessarily be surprising -- my grandmother, who has osteoporosis, has lost at least five inches from her height and my mother, who has osteopenia, has already lost about two.
While I'm hoping it could just have been the nurse's miscalculation, it serves as a timely reminder to take my calcium and Vitamin D, and keep up my weightbearing exercise.
