Bigger, Better Bones in Mice: CD200 Protein Deficiency

Lila de Tantillo Health Guide
  • Promising research from the Yale School of Medicine has shown that mice deficient in a protein called CD200 have a higher bone density than other mice (http://www.healthnewsdigest.com/news/Women_s_Health_260/Molecules_that_Play_Role_in_Bone_Size.shtml),

Apparently the lack of this protein inhibits the function of the osteoclasts, cells that conduct bone resorption (take away old bone). Perhaps this discovery will pave the way to more ways to help humans preserve as much bone density as possible.
