I don't know if this is good news, bad news, or what. Researchers at the University of Milan have been working on the connection between taking your calcium, watching yout weight and your risk of osteoporosis. What they've come up with is this: being overweight is associated with low dairy intake (not good for osteoporosis). But having a low BMI is also related to a higher risk of osteoporosis, so the risk of the low calcium intake in the overweight subjects was offset to some degree.
I suppose the ideal would be for all of us to maintain a healthy weight (not overweight or underweight) AND consume plenty of calcium, but of course, doing all that simultaneously is always easier said than done.
