Worrisome Calcium Study

By Lila de Tantillo, Health Guide Saturday, September 29, 2007

Uh-oh, just as I'm starting to remember to take my calcium daily, I learn this. An Auckland (New Zealand) University study has linked calcium supplements to an increased risk of cardiac disease. The half of postmenopausal women in the control group who took 1 gram of calcium per day had more heart attacks than those taking a placebo. It is thought the results could have something to do with a build-up of calcium in the heart vessels.

I hope to see more research on this soon. Read more about this at www.nzherald.co.nz/section/1/story.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=10465664
