Scientists in Europe are developing a new theory about the composition and structure of bones. The researches, based in Cambridge and Berlin, say that they key organic building blocks responsible for bone's stiffness and toughness are sugars, not proteins as previously thought. If true, this new understanding could revolutionize work on new drugs to help protect bones.
