Oprah Screens for Osteoporosis

By Lila de Tantillo, Health Guide Friday, November 30, 2007

In a recent segment of Oprah discussing staying young with Dr. Mehmet Oz, Oprah had her audience members receive a bone density test. The results: almost three-quarters were normal, and the rest had osteopenia -- a precursor to osteoporosis that is not as severe. (Fortunately no one had full-fledged osteoporosis.)

Not only will this screening hopefully raise the awareness of those who learned they were on the brink of the disease, but hopefully it will encourage the many viewers at home to take their bone health seriously as part of their overall well being. Thank you Oprah for dedicating some time on your show to concerns about osteoporosis!
