Calcium in a Smoothie -- and I Can't Taste It At All

By Lila de Tantillo, Health Guide Wednesday, February 20, 2008

I recently discovered a new, delicious way to get my daily calcium dose -- in a fruit smoothie! While my son and I are regular patrons of Jamba Juice (a national chain of fresh fruit blenders around the country), it was only recently that I noticed that we could get a free "calcium boost" mixed in with our beverage of choice, usually an "all-fruit" drink. It's 1,000 mg of calcium -- the amount the National Osteoporosis Foundation recommends daily for adults under age 50 -- and I can't taste it at all.

This Jamba Juice option is definitely more enjoyable than swallowing a green pill, and also a great way to ensure my little one gets his calcium, since he has allergies to both cow's milk and soy.

I'd love to hear from others who've found unexpected (and tasty) ways to keep up calcium intake.
