    The smoothie sounds like an appetizing way to get that extra calcium boost. I would think there is probably some calcium in the drink to begin with. I have read that you best absorb calcium in amounts of 500 mg at a time, so I wonder if the other 500 mg are wasted or can cause you an increase in side effects such as the usual constipation and gas that a lot of folks get. If the other 500 mg is wasted the first time around, it could be a good excuse to buy another one in the evening. Yum Yum

    Thanks for bringing up an excellent point! In my case I split my smoothie with my son, and since we get the dairy free one there's probably minimal amounts of calcium without the boost (since it's all fruit). However it's definitely something to think about for those who have experienced discomfort from calcium supplements and want to make sure they get exactly two daily doses of no more than 500 mg at a time.
