We've talked about our doctors' responsibilities to diagnose and treat osteoporosis as a chronic condition in addition to healing the immediate fracture. And we all have the task of eating healthy amounts of calcium and vitamin D, getting proper exercise, and safeguarding our bone health. But a new group is being requested to help in the battle against osteoporosis -- pharmacists.
The American Society of Health-System Pharmacists has called upon those in the field to take on the challenge of addressing issues related to compliance with osteoporosis medication (which statistically has been quite poor) and encouraging those who may be at risk for the condition to obtain the appropriate diagnosis.
It's great to see another group of professionals taking in the gravity of this widespread condition and striving to do their best to help those who may have it! You can read more about this effort at http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/97337.php
