likelihood of fracture

By Lila de Tantillo, Health Guide Wednesday, May 16, 2007
We all know that many older women are at risk of fractures from osteoporosis, but I didn't realize the extent of the problem until I learned a new statistic yesterday at a seminar at Cedars Medical Center in Miami, FL. Apparently 50% of Caucasian and Asian women above 50 will suffer an osteoporosis-related fracture in their remaining lifetime (the risk is also signficant for women of other backgrounds, but these groups are at highest risk). That figure, which is a higher incidence even than heart disease, is bad news about a disease we can all do so much to prevent.
