I was happy to see that the opening of a new osteoporosis diagnosis and treatment unit in England drew Prime Minister Tony Blair for an hour-long visit. Such an appearance indicates that awareness of the disease worldwide is finally catching up with its gravity and widespread impact. While other serious conditions, such as AIDS and cancer, regularly inspire world leaders to attend events to demonstrate their support and raise awareness, low bone mass and its effects haven't seemed to draw as much attention. Hopefully the good work done at this unit will broaden into even more research and support for those with osteopenia and osteoporosis, both in England and the rest of the globe.
