Monday, February 07, 2011 Reba asks

Q: I have taken Fosteum for a year and a half. Recent dexa bone scan revealed 6% loss. I also follow a complete program- calcium, mag, D, exercise, etc. What can be the problem?

my question is simple. If the research shows that Fosteum works, what happens when it does not work? and what are the options other than serious drugs?

Hi Reba, so sorry the Fosteum isn't working.  Have you been checked for secondary causes for osteoporosis?   Also, here's a list of medications that can cause bone loss, as well.

I would check to see if any of these things on the two lists apply to you.  If none of these things apply, you may want to see if you are absorbing your calcium, D etc.  Have you had your D levels checked too?  If they are low, you may not respond to Fosteum, or any other treatment until you raise your circulating D score.

If you have any of these medical issues, you may not improve your t-score until the secondary cause is treated.

Good luck
