Q: Fosamax d/c'd 4months ago, Can constipation be a sign of spinal fracture?

My mom stopped her Fosamax about 4 months ago because she needed a tooth extraction and implant. Over the last month or so, she complains for constipation and not feeling the urge to go. She also complain her legs are tired at the end of the day and tingling in her feet. Should we be concerned about a spinal fracture?

Hi Paula, welcome to the community and thanks for your question.  Has your mom injured herself recently or does she have pain in her hips or back?  Constipation can be caused by pain meds, but if she isn't taking those there has to be another cause.  Calcium can have binding effects, but many other things could cause this as well.

To be sure there isn't an injury or fracture, she should have an x-ray or CT scan.  If there is something wrong or fractured, it could cause this feeling in her legs and feet, but usually that occurs when there is some type of nerve involvement with an injury.  I would have her see her Dr to order one of these test or at least evaluate the situation.

Good luck with this and I hope it isn't a fracture and you find out what is going on.  If you have any other questions don't hesitate to ask again.
