Q: why are you only suppose to take this medicine for 2 years

why can you only take this medicine for 2 years?

Hi J:  Forteo was only tested for 2 years, so we don't know what the long term effects would be if someone went beyond the 2 years that was approved by the FDA.  If you'd like to read more about Forteo here's a link from the Cleveland Clinic on it.

The nurse that gave me my class for FORTEO said that the treatment is for 2 years because thats how it was approved thru the thru the FDA. She also said to wait a year before you do a new bone scan because it wont pick up the full affects of the FORTEO on the scan until a a scan after 6 months wont give you a good reading of how its working. Im using the new pen for FORTEO and finding its really easy to use. Reply
