Don't let RA limit your routineLearn more now about a treatment that may help
Thursday, May 01, 2008 DiPhx asks

Q: Why isn't foxamax working and what other osteoporosis treatments would you recommend next

I have been on fosomax for 5 years.  I take supplements of 1200 mg calcium and 800mg

daily, eat yogurt, dairy products, veggies etc.  I exercise 4 times a week, walk a lot,

do not smoke or drink. I have been losing about bone mass annually and just hit the

osterporosis mark in the hips.  My physician my DNA is not accepting the calcium.

He has put me on actonel for a year and if no improvement, will go to reclast.

Any other alternative treatment suggestions you can recommend??

Thanks so much for your question! I am sorry for your frustrating experience -- it sounds like you are doing all you can to prevent osteoporosis. It is possible that the medication you are taking has been working -- and that without it your bone loss might even have been worse, due to other factors such as heredity or menopause. You are doing the right thing by consulting with your physician. I can't say which medication might be best in your situation, but I encourage you to remain positive and proactive about your bone health and continue your best efforts to prevent a fracture. Take good care.
